Cleaning Up My Desktop

This is one of my favorites that I had to capture for posterity before I trashed it. I guess whoever coded up that error must have never got it in their testing.

Palm Garnet has a similar thing where you get an error during sync and the error detail is something like AirStateSamMachine.c. What exactly are you supposed to do with that? Maybe enlightened mac / iPhone users don't have to deal with this?

I think we should make error messages easy to remember like they make parking levels in a garage easy to remember: color-code them, give them a sports team (doesn't O'hare do that?), perhaps a theme song.

Whenever a friend or relative calls me to ask me to fix their computer and tries to tell me what the error message said, they never remember it well enough for it to be helpful. But if they said "Michael Jordan popped up in a red window and sang an ABBA song, and there was something else written below it," I could then tell them, "Oh, your hard disk is full and that's why you can't save your screenplay and when you turned off your computer, you lost all your changes."

I was flipping through the circuit city circular and I noticed that one of the HDTV's had an actual NFL player in the onscreen simulated picture. Apparently that's what it means for Samsung to be the official HDTV of the NFL.
